"Spotify is no longer running ICE recruitment ads. But make no mistake, it’s just a meaningless case of convenient timing: The ad campaign simply ended on Wednesday,..."
Coincidentally, Spotify was just in the news as well for raising their monthly fee to $13.
But the dealbreaker that have prevented me from becoming a Spotify subscriber is their miserable compensation rates for musical artists. I go back to the early days of music streaming with Rhapsody. Rhapsody was eventually rebranded as Napster--kinda like rebranding an institution of higher learning as Trump University--and then the new incarnation of Napster gradually and then completely went to hell, finally forcing me, despite having no time, to find a new music streaming service a few months ago.
My two criteria:
* Comprehensive library.
* High compensation rates for artists.
Based on those criteria, I got a 30-day free trial for Qobuz. Shortly thereafter I converted that to an annual subscription, and I haven't looked back. Qobuz gives me everything I want in a music streaming service--nothing more, nothing less. It's strange to me there isn't more buzz about it (forgive the half-pun).
