Whenever I read something like this I think.. Would it be avant garde if it had been reversed? I think we all know the answer is no. Maybe these people should spend creating their own works of creativity and inspiration instead of trying to tear down others. Trying to denigrate art and artists that come from another era says more about Encoded own deficiencies than it does about those times.

“The absence of Indigenous bodies—or Indigenous anything—is a glaring omission among the 20,000 artworks on view in the American Wing.”

It’s an omission partly caused by the indigenous groups themselves.

Much, not all, but much of their spirituality imbues sacredness not only on human remains, but on anything created by humans.

That means every beaded dress, every fetish, every piece of jewelry, is subject to NAGPRA and prudent, culturally sensitive curators will refuse to put it on display and will begin the process of repatriation.

I would expect a culturally sensitive art critic to be familiar with NAGPRA and its implications.

Displaying indiginous art and artifacts is a minefield for museums these days. Why don't tribes create their own spaces on (or off) res to present their culture and art? Why is it up to the Met (or any other museum) to take that task on? And yes, nothing was "hacked" here!

Corny, boring and unoriginal. It’s pretty apparent Demian DinéYazhi´has no talent besides placing some sort of obvious, didactic and inflammatory text on top of something. (And no creativity in typography either)

One thing that’s pretty obvious about artist / activists is that they’re usually bad at both things.

"As the neon letters
intermittently flickered,
they spelled out the words “free Palestine.”

as we continue to bomb them to
smithereens, Our lives
flicker, as well

If you look close enough you can spot a smoke shop and a casino in the background, just look for the sign that says "cheap drinks".

@soiboi

Genociding
our way, manifesting
our 'God-Given Destiny!'
has certainly taken its Toll
on a Decimated population

reduced to the Reservation
stripped of ALL, including their Dignity,
they've had damn Few opportunities to Survive

let alone Prosper. what if the United States of America
had actually HONORED the Treaties WE Signed
with Indigenous Peoples? we'd be singing
a Vastly Different Tune.

well
Some
of us would.

Reparations NOW.

@3 yeah we just can’t quit the allure of being “disruptors,” (aka hacking and smuggling) —that ethos is American af. Silly terminology aside, the idea of a single art piece being experienced via several media at once is a cool idea. Layers.

Nicholas Galanin must have Wayne White on speed dial.

This is as good a time as any to air my grievance - BRING BACK THE SHRUNKEN HEADS TO MUSEUM EXHIBITS!!!

The sky above the museum was the color of television tuned to a dead channel.
